Benjamin is a PhD Candidate in International Relations at the Coral Bell School of Asia Pacific Affairs.

His research examines the politics of climate change, the environment, and resources, with a particular focus on Australia, the United States, and the Pacific Islands Region. This work cuts across a number of areas, including migration and displacement, postcolonial and imperialism studies, resistance and protest movements, violence, and critical approaches to security studies and international relations. In his thesis, Benjamin examines how discourses of scarcity have been articulated in the Pacific, and their relationship to power, politics, and the Anthropocene.

Prior to commencing PhD study, Benjamin was a senior policy advisor on climate change for the Australian Government. Before that, he worked for several years as a campaign strategist and political advisor within the labour movement. He holds a Master of International Relations from the ANU and a Bachelor of Government and International Relations from Griffith University.
