About the Institute for Climate, Energy & Disaster Solutions

We connect people with climate, energy and disaster-risk research from The Australian National University. Our goal is to advance innovative solutions to address climate change, energy system transitions and disasters. We facilitate integrated approaches to research, teaching and policy engagement across disciplines. We also collaborate closely with ANU Environmental Sustainability to support operational climate action that aims to reduce the University's greenhouse gas emissions to below zero and strengthen climate adaptation across campus.

Our Institute consolidates and builds on the activities of the former ANU Climate Change Institute, Energy Change Institute, and Disaster Risk Science Institute. ANU colleagues involved in climate, energy or disaster solutions are warmly encouraged to join ICEDS.

The Institute represents close to 600 climate, energy and disaster-risk related researchers across ANU, including academics, visiting fellows / honorary roles and PhD students. Our team comprises over 15 professional staff members, including three additional research roles supported by funding external to ANU.

Membership of the ANU Institute for Climate, Energy & Disaster Solutions (ICEDS) is open to academics (including Visiting Fellows), PhD students, and professional staff who are involved in climate change, energy transition or disaster-risk science related research and education at the ANU.

Associates »

Associates of the Institute are individuals from outside the ANU who are active in climate, energy and disaster research, teaching, practice and policy, who wish to receive information regarding Institute activities, including opportunities for collaboration. Being an Associate is not a conferred academic title, does not imply access to University resources or the right to act in the University’s name.

The Institute for Climate, Energy & Disaster Solutions has collaborative partnerships with other research and technology organisations around Australia and internationally.

The Women in Energy (WiE) group unites women from across the campus whose research touches on energy.
