Dr Huon Curtis

Senior Research Fellow
Tech Policy Design Centre

I currently lead the Tech Policy Design Centre's research on Risk and Resilience in the Telecommunciations Sector.

I have led other research and strategy projects of national significance and have strong training in international political economy and publications in emerging technology, industry, skills and economic policy.

A key strength is my ability to build a broad network of specialist industry, government and academic expert advisors to ensure that projects deliver influence.

I have a strong thought-leadership profile through publications in a range of forums including national press and industry-focused outlets.

Policy and analysis publications include:

  • whole-of-defence cyber skills policy framework developed for the Department of Defence on First Nations participation,
  • systematic review of SME productivity and digitisation strategies for the OECD and UN Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO)
  • country reports on emerging skills, artificial intelligence and gender, and assessments of Russia's AI capabilities.

These publications have had impact including the adoption of a policy framework, strategy and recommendations by the Australian Department of Defence and citations in the Standards Australia AI Roadmap

Proven ability to lead successful teams coupled with a passion for broadening public policy debates through public engagement
