Dr Firouzeh Taghikhah

Postdoctoral research fellow
ANU Crawford School of Public Policy

Firouzeh is a Postdoctoral research fellow at the Crawford School of Public Policy at the Australian National University (ANU). She is also a visiting research fellow in Center on Persuasive Systems for Wise Adaptive Living (PERSWADE), Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology (FEIT) at University of Technology Sydney (UTS), and a Young Resilient Fellows for Resilience Engineering (RE) community of the Four Technical Universities (4TU) in the Netherlands. She obtained her PhD in Analytic and Systems Modeling form UTS in January 2021 with special examiners’ recommendations for outstanding thesis. She received her Bachelor’s (2011) and a Master’s degree (distinguished student award and best thesis award of 2014) in Industrial Engineering from one of the most prestigious universities in Iran, Ferdowsi University of Mashhad.

Firouzeh’ s research interests are in the areas of sustainable development, food resiliency, socio-environmental systems, and behavioral science. She has designed and developed a decision support tool to explore the transition pathways towards sustainable agro-food systems focusing on consumer behavior change. For developing this tool, she used complex system and integrated modeling methods including Agent-based modeling, System dynamics, Discrete event simulation, and Optimization. Her study outputs have been published in various high impact journals such as European Journal of Operation Research, Journal of Cleaner Production, Environmental science and policy, etc.

Currently, she is working on a global agriculture project, titled “Integrated farm modelling to improve resilience and sustainable prosperity”. This research aims to develop a decision support tool that can automatically assess the health of ecosystems to help land stewards to use their land cultivation processes and make informed decisions about their practices. The ultimate goal of the project is to enable farmers to sustain their land, maximize its value for biodiversity and resilience, and promote carbon capture and regenerative farming.
