Dr Mahendra Kumar is currently an Independent Policy and Technical Advisor/Expert on Climate Change based in Suva, Fiji.

Dr Kumar has been involved with climate change activities for almost two decades, and has worked on short, medium and long term assignments in a range of areas related to climate change, disaster risk management, green growth, renewable energy, sustainable development, mitigation, adaptation, capacity building, technology transfer, financing, project development, monitoring & evaluation (including mid-term and terminal review of projects) and policy for international and regional organisations such as UNDP, UNEP, UNESCAP, UNESCO, UNFCCC, UNIDO, SPC, SPREP and many tertiary and research institutions.

Dr. Kumar has a distinguished record in academia as a Professor and Administrator. He has served as, Vice Chancellor; Dean, Science & Technology and Director of Centre of Climate Change, Energy Environment and Sustainable Development (which he helped set up) at the University of Fiji.
