Helen is a PhD Candidate in Anthropology at ANU. Her research explores what it means for people to inhabit a marine environment on Ataúro Island, in East Timor. In particular she is interested in people's practices and perceptions of the sea, and the things that inhabit it.

Prior to this Helen gained a Masters of Applied Anthropology and Participatory Development Research, with Honors at ANU. She conducted her research thesis in Cambodia, looking at impact of changes to fisheries management on Tonle Sap Lake to local livelihoods.

Helen is an experienced development practitioner, with extensive experience working in diverse environments both in Australia and East Timor. She has held positions in community-based, non-government organisations, as well as in local government and federal government in Australia.
