Lorrae has nearly 20 years of experience in strategic program development and project delivery in social research and public policy settings specific to First Nation peoples’ land and water rights and interests.

Currently, she is a Research Fellow working at the ANU First Nations Portfolio (FNP) and member of the ANU Zero-Carbon Energy for the Asia-Pacific (ZCEAP) Grand Challenge supporting First Nation peoples’ engagement in the region’s rapid transition to clean energy. In this role she supports an innovative and transdisciplinary environment for debating significant and strategic issues and supporting First Nation communities, their representative organisations, and enterprises to further their status, recognition and interests in large scale renewable energy projects.

Lorrae is also a co-leader of the ANU Institute for Climate Change, Energy and Disaster Solutions (ICEDS) Indigenous Peoples, Cultures and Knowledges research cluster and committee member of the Australian Institute for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies (AIATSIS) Native Title Research Advisory Committee.  

Prior to this she held various positions in northern Australia, including at the Northern Land Council (NLC) supporting First Nations manage and activate their sea country rights and interests and managed the Community Planning Program that supports First Nations self-determine their development interests. At the North Australian Indigenous Land and Sea Management Alliance (NAILSMA) she engaged Aboriginal community leaders and experts in the development of research initiatives to inform public policies regarding First Nations rights and interests in freshwater, land management and economic development reform agendas.
