Dr Gianluca Marino

I am a Distinguished Researcher at the Universidade de Vigo (UVigo, Spain) since April 2018, when I started a 5-year position within the framework of the “Programa de Captación de Talento Investigador de Excelencia”. This appointment was taken over in January 2021 by a Beatriz Galindo Fellowship, which is still based at UVigo. I also hold an Honorary Senior Lectureship at the Research School of Earth Sciences (RSES) of the Australian National University (ANU, Australia). Previously, I worked as postdoctoral researcher at the Institute of Environmental Science and Technology (ICTA) of the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB, Spain), and at the RSES of the ANU. I have been visiting scientist at the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory of the Columbia University (USA).

Research interests

Quaternary ocean and climate dynamics; mechanisms of orbital and sub-orbital climate variability, glacial-interglacial cycles, abrupt climate changes, interhemispheric bipolar seesaw, inter-ocean exchanges (e.g., Agulhas Leakage), Monsoon System. Paleoceanography of the marginal seas (e.g., Mediterranean Sea). Marine carbonate chemistry and global carbon cycle. My research is mostly based on trace element (Mg/Ca, Ba/Ca, B/Ca, Cd/Ca) and stable isotope (δ18O, δ13C, δ11B) foraminiferal geochemistry.
