Professor Andrew Stuchbery

BSc (Hons. Uni of Melb), PhD (Uni of Melb)
Head, Department of Nuclear Physics

Andrew Stuchbery completed BSc(Hons) and PhD degrees at the University of Melbourne. He came to ANU in 1983 as a joint ANU-Melbourne Research Fellow. Awarded the Pawsey Medal by the Australian Academy of Science in 1991, he also held an ARC Senior Research Fellowship from 1992-1997.

He is currently Convenor of the Master of Nuclear Science Program, which encourages students from diverse backgrounds to develop the scientific knowledge needed to inform debate on nuclear issues, without taking a particular position.

Professor Stuchbery’s research interests include studies of the structure of nuclei through gamma-ray spectroscopy methods, with an emphasis on the measurement and interpretation of electromagnetic properties using hyperfine fields. His present ANU-based research underpins experiments on rare isotopes at large-scale international radioactive beam facilities.
