Dr. Shreshtha Gupta is a Research Fellow in the Thermal Energy Group at the School of Engineering, Australian National University (ANU).

His current research, funded by ARENA, focuses on evaluating the viability of a hydrogen-based melter to advance low-emission, sustainable ironmaking technologies.

Prior to his tenure at ANU, Dr. Gupta was a Research Fellow at the University of Melbourne, where he contributed to a Future Fuels CRC project focused on hydrogen–natural gas blending for energy infrastructure applications. He commenced this role shortly after submitting his PhD thesis in April 2023. His doctoral studies, initiated in 2018, explored turbulent flame–wall interactions with applications in internal combustion and gas turbine engines, integrating combustion modelling using Direct Numerical Simulations (DNS) of reacting flows. Additionally, he earned a master’s degree from the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur, specialising in the design of low-emission combustors for gas turbines, notably the “Reverse-Cross Flow Combustor” and the “Peripheral Vortex Reverse-Flow Combustor.” He also holds a bachelor’s degree in engineering.

Research interests

Dr. Shreshtha Gupta’s research focuses on clean, low-carbon fuels, with a specific focus on hydrogen and hydrogen-blended fuel combustion for energy and industrial applications. His work explored turbulent reacting flows, flame dynamics, and flame–wall interactions. His research also included mixing, transport, and safety aspects of hydrogen–natural gas blends. Additionally, he has worked on the design of low-emission combustors and burners.
