Australia lags as floods, fires prompt world leaders into action

Germany has had its worst floods in a millennium. Record-breaking heat baked western Canada. California is ablaze yet again. Eastern Australia is still recovering from the Black Summer bushfires. For years climate scientists have warned about such extreme weather events, and now they are happening with alarming frequency.

In Europe and North America there is widespread political acknowledgement that climate change is a serious issue that needs immediate attention. In Australia, calls for action have fallen on deaf political ears. The response in this country has been, quite frankly, pathetic.
