This event is presented by the ANU Institute for Climate, Energy & Disaster Solutions and the University of Fiji and will run on 13 October 2021at 3:00pm FJT/GMT+12.

On 9th August 2021, the United Nations (UN) Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) released its 7-yearly assessment on the state of our climate. This report focuses on the physical science of climate change, covering Pacific climate phenomena including temperature rise, rainfall, marine heatwaves, tropical cyclones, sea level rise, ocean acidity and coastal flooding. IPCC reports are the world’s most authoritative sources of climate science, approved by 195 countries.

This public lecture will discuss the main findings of the report and its implications for Fiji and the Pacific.

Prof Mark Howden is an IPCC Vice-Chair and has assisted in the final approval process of the report. He will give a presentation on the key findings, before participating in a brief question and answer session.
