Farmers have responded enthusiastically to a new carbon market scheme that, in a world first, aims to put a price on biodiversity.

The Federal Government initiative, to be launched as a trial in six states, is aimed at creating a climate and environment policy that appeals to farmers but avoids a backlash from conservative Coalition MPs opposed to climate change action.
