Leadership for national adaptation in Australia – urgent next steps
Seminar by Emeritus Professor Mark Howden AC
There is an urgent need for adaptation to climate change. The evidence is clear that climate change is already causing damage to our economies, homes, environments and productivity, and the trend is for a rapid increase in climate impacts. We are now in unchartered territory and everyone is affected.
It is not yet apparent that our increasing risks and the challenges of future climate are incorporated in policy and decision-making. It is also clear that adaptation is complex – it requires changing our current approaches to decisions and management, and to ensuring that equity implications are addressed. This seminar explores the leadership needed in Australia for effective climate change adaptation, and clarifies why it is urgently needed.
With a panel of expert adaptation discussants including;
- Prof Lauren Rickards (Latrobe Uni)
- Dr Jo Mummery (UC)
- Dr Jason Alexandra (ANU)
- Facilitated by Prof Jacki Schirmer (UC)
