In-Person COP31 Events
If you are attending COP in Türkiye, please visit one of the following events to catch ANU and ICEDS participants!
- Global Alliance of Universities on Climate: Opening Ceremony
Tue 10 Nov, 9AM, GAUC Pavilion
Join ANU, Tsinghua University and the London School of Economics and Political Science as co-chairs of the Global Alliance of Universities on Climate to welcome delegates to COP31.
- Coalitions for clean industry: Coordinated Pathways to Industrial Decarbonisation
Tue 17 Nov, 9AM, Australia Pavilion
Heavy industry, including steel, cement, chemicals, and more, is the hardest sector to decarbonise, and it requires international cooperation and harmonisation to do so economically efficiently. This side event explores how coalition-based approaches can accelerate industrial decarbonisation while keeping trade open and costs low through shared emissions standards, joint green procurement, and technology and finance cooperation that supports developing-country industrialisation. Drawing on the Harvard-MIT Climate Coalitions Working Group and Australia's Carbon Leakage Review, panellists from Australia, Asia, North America, Europe, and multilateral institutions will offer brief remarks before an open discussion.
- Plurilateral Policies for Fostering Green Industrial Trade and Low-carbon Transformation
Tue 17 Nov, 11:30AM, Side-Event Room Red
Interactions between climate and commodity trade grows as carbon intensity in industrial products influences more domestic and international policy. Improved coordination matters for cost effectiveness as decarbonization leads to new industrial technology and geographical production patterns.
