Zero Carbon Energy for the Asia-Pacific Initiative (ZCEAP)

The ANU Zero-Carbon Energy for the Asia-Pacific Grand Challenge initiative focused on pushing the frontiers needed to help future-proof the way Australia traded with the world, building on the country’s abundant renewable energy resources.

As the global economy moved toward net zero emissions, the initiative examined the fundamental shifts underway in energy supply, as well as the production and trade of energy-intensive commodities. It recognised that Australia had long been a major supplier of fossil fuels and mining products to Asia, and that this model would need to evolve.

The initiative explored the development of a new export model, one that could make a significant contribution to meeting the region’s growing energy and resource needs while achieving zero carbon emissions. It highlighted Australia’s strong position to take advantage of these emerging opportunities, given its renewable energy potential and strategic role in the region.
