Applications Now Open - Casual Technical Officer
The ANU Institute for Climate, Energy & Disaster Solutions (ICEDS) has an exciting new opportunity for a casual Technical Officer to work with experienced climate scientists and statistics/machine learning researchers to advance our understanding in seasonal precipitation forecasting in Australia.
The role will work directly with researchers at the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) and ANU. The position is based in Canberra, at an ANU casual level 4/5 with up to 14 hours per week from May until December 2023, with a possibility of extension based on the interest of the successful candidate and their skills developed over the duration of the project.
You will be working on the development of a cutting-edge statistical model that uses real-world data for Seasonal Climate Forecasting. The work will involve data processing, coding, statistical model development and machine learning. You will also receive research training and explore various R programming, testing, visualisation, packaging and documentation skills. Your activities may lead to a scientific publication or co-authorship.
Role requirements:

Strong background on statistics/mathematics/machine learning (such as statistical distributions, ensemble forecasts, model selection, cross-validation)

Advanced programming skills, experience in R programming is highly regarded
