Climate change is worsening all kinds of extremes, but the most obvious one could also be the deadliest: heat.

New Zealanders aren’t used to worrying about hot days, given our typically moderate climate.

Australians die in heatwaves more than any other natural disaster and a heatwave in the US and Canada this summer has likely killed hundreds of people.

But New Zealanders tend to think of a scorcher as something to celebrate.
