About
Dr Xueqian Sun is a Research Fellow and ARC DECRA Fellow in the School of Engineering at the Australian National University (ANU). She received her B.E. with First Class Honours and Ph.D. in Engineering from ANU in 2017 and 2024, respectively, with her PhD thesis shortlisted as a finalist for the ANU J G Crawford Prize. Her research focuses on engineering excitonic states and light–matter interactions in atomically thin semiconductors and van der Waals heterostructures. By combining advanced optical spectroscopy, nanoscale device fabrication and materials nano-engineering, she develops experimental platforms to probe and control light emission, exciton transport and many-body interactions in emerging ultrathin functional materials. Her work spans excitonic complexes, engineered light emission and dynamically tunable optoelectronic responses. Her current research program aims to translate exciton science into low-power optoelectronic devices, quantum light-emitting platforms and intelligent sensing technologies for future information and environmental applications.
