Coastal wetlands for storm protection
Recent research led Professor Robert Costanza has shown that coastal wetlands save 4,600 lives per year, and save $450 billion a year in storm damages. They offer a means of protection to those on the coast that is both cheaper, and more environmentally friendly, than other options such as seawalls and and dykes.
