Dr Emerson Sanchez

Dr. Emerson M. Sanchez is an ARC Linkage Research Fellow at the Institute for Infrastructure in Society, ANU Crawford School of Public Policy. His interdisciplinary research addresses critical questions of participation and inclusion in socio-environmental governance. His recent work on social risk assessment in major infrastructure projects in Australia examines how early decision-making processes can better integrate social considerations alongside traditional risk frameworks.

With area studies expertise on the Philippines, Dr. Sanchez investigates civic engagement across diverse domains including renewable energy transitions, climate governance, sovereign wealth fund management, drug policy reform, and mining disaster responses. His scholarship and practice include contributions to understanding deliberative democracy at both global and national scales, from analysing the Global Climate Assembly's role in international climate governance to facilitating citizen dialogues on democratic reform. His publications bridge political science and environmental policy, appearing in leading journals and edited volumes. He holds a PhD in Political Science and Policy Studies from the University of Canberra and a Master's in International Public Policy from the University of Tsukuba.
